Northern Arizona University | North Quad

NAU is situated in the high-desert of Arizona where the landscape is marked by stately ponderosa pines and rugged outcroppings of Coconino sandstone. A campus master plan and a series of implementation projects re-establish campus’ landscape as the primary organizing framework of the campus. Jonathan served as design landscape architect for this project while practicing at Ayers Saint Gross. At the northernmost corner of the campus the quad in front of Old Main presents the iconic image cited most often as capturing the essence of the Flagstaff campus. But on a day to day level, this area is removed from student activity. The precinct study focused on how to weave the space back into the campus, including restoration and renovation of the landscape and hardscape.
