University of Mississippi Housing Precinct

A mature oak grove is the centerpiece of a new residential landscape design led by Jonathan for the University of Mississippi, where a new, 8-acre housing precinct for first-year and sophomore students builds on Ole Miss’ legacy of noteworthy architecture and beautiful campus landscapes. Designed to foster an environment of collaboration and community among new students, the housing district features a combination of formal quadrangles intended to be heavily programmed for active uses. Acting as flexible outdoor classrooms, collaboration spaces, and venues for student engagement, these social amenities support academic life beyond the classroom as well as a sense of belonging. At the heart of the precinct, a mature oak grove is reimagined as a woodland amenity zone, sensitively retrofitted to provide students with flexible, casual spaces for gathering, study, collaboration, and informal learning.
