Academy Art

The Academy Art Museum is an important center for cultivating and promoting regional artists from around the Chesapeake Bay. Its educational programs reach thousands of school age children as well as hundreds of working adults and retirees annually. With increased pressure on its galleries and classrooms, the Academy embarked on a multi-phased renovation of its facilities, with a new visitor entrance reorienting the museum around a garden courtyard at its core. The new garden celebrates the textures and colors of the region with ornamental grasses abstracting the salt marshes and wetlands that skirt the bay. Stone plinths around the garden serve as infrastructure for exhibiting the Academy’s collection of contemporary sculpture.
