2025 Greetings

We wish you peace and prosperity in the year ahead.

We hope that in 2025 you will find time to cultivate, tend and enjoy your own plot of ground.

This photo is a Cunninghamia lanceolata, a Chinese fir specimen in the collection of Baltimore’s Cylburn Arboretum. We encountered it on a recent site visit to the arboretum, where we are currently at work on a master plan. The species is in the cypress family and native to the woodlands of central and southern China and Taiwan, where it commonly reaches heights of 150 feet and greater. In North America, it can be a lovely part of the winter landscape (albeit in protected locations) with the spiny texture of its evergreen foliage, its gently pendulous branches and its lantern-like cones.
