Brandywine Estate
A carefully crafted residence-and-garden complex is taking shape on the rolling uplands of the Brandywine near the village of Greenville, Delaware. Inspired by historic Georgian estates of the mid-Atlantic, the design combines modern convenience with classical balance, symmetry and a respect for the genius of place. An entry drive choreographs the arrival experience stretching through preserved woodland and culminating in a formal forecourt. Terraced gardens on three sides of the house each celebrating a different vista into the surrounding landscapes. Behind the house, a natural swimming pond provides a garden focal point in all seasons, while garden rooms to the east and west provide intimate settings for food production (a potager and permaculture plot) and reflection (sculpture gardens and dog play-scapes).
