Inner Harbor
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is generally regarded as a great urban renewal success story; in the 1970s and 80s it was reborn from the ashes of a declining waterfront. Since then it has aged and evolved very little. This master plan envisions the next phase of Baltimore’s enhancement with new attractions, better physical connections to the city’s neighborhoods and an overlay of green infrastructure to make this a healthier and more humane urban environment. An area of particular attention is Rash Field on the south side of the harbor, where playing fields have served as a poor anchor at the base of Baltimore’s Federal Hill. The study included a detailed design for a remade open space, with rooftop landscape over parking structure and extensive new attractions including retail, water features, a children’s garden and a concert venue.
