Navesink Seaside

This new seaside garden retreat embraces the Arts-and-Crafts legacy of its main house—an 1890s summer cottage built by a NY merchant—while adapting the landscape vocabulary to a twenty first century context. Its rich array of plant palettes was carefully assembled to suit the property’s ranging microclimates. New plantings enhance the ecological value of the property, while streamlining maintenance and extending the seasonal display. Intimate, formal garden rooms and a gracious parterre open out onto grassy hillside long-walks and a pastoral “great lawn” for hosting family gatherings and philanthropic events. A renovated swimming deck is transformed with a gracious pergola and set amidst an immersive, lush perennial garden for hosting summer parties. The new landscape design celebrates the property’s privileged vantage point atop coastal bluffs, with stunning vistas overlooking the Navesink River and the Atlantic Ocean.
