San Martin Drive Greenway
The San Martin Drive corridor runs along the west side of Johns Hopkins’ Homewood campus. Historically, this area was regarded as the back side of the campus and offered little in the way of pedestrian comfort. This project provides pedestrian access along the corridor, including a footbridge through the forest canopy and new campus gateways that welcome neighbors and visitors. Planted areas throughout the project are comprised of drought-tolerant native plants. Plantings in wooded areas are stratified and, out in the open, a matrix of grasses and forbs was used to provide a dense, weed-resistant layer of vegetation. Jonathan served as lead designer and landscape architect for this project throughout its design and construction, completing it while practicing at Ayers Saint Gross.
