Gladding Residence Center, Virginia Commonwealth University

This high-rise residence hall is situated in downtown Richmond and occupies a coveted position, fronting on Monroe Park, one of Richmond’s prominent urban greenspaces. New streetscapes blend with the neighborhood fabric while design detailing subtly references the University’s landscape brand. A new courtyard provides both an important social space the resident living-learning community as well as an iconic graphic composition when viewed from student rooms on the floors above.
