White Clay Farm

This house in the country is surrounded by acres of rolling field, old forests and a noteworthy collection of beautiful trees assembled by generations of Delaware Valley Quakers and horticulturalists. Situated midway up a hillside, the old stone farmhouse and its sister bank barn have a commanding view of the surrounding fields, a spring-fed pond and the wooded bluffs of the White Clay Creek. Our design for new garden spaces around the house sensitively sculpts the hillside to introduce a sunny herb garden, brick- and bluestone-patios, hillside garden walks, perennial borders and an outdoor living room between the house and the swimming pool, for entertaining and al fresca dining. The gardens feature a rich, regional palette of native perennials and grasses, fieldstone, flagstone, bluestone and brick as well as the owner’s collection of garden art and furniture.
